Stockbox
Are you a kinship caregiver or foster parent over the age of sixty? Do you have a gross monthly income of $1174* or less? If so, you are eligible for the Stockbox Program through the Hunger Task Force. The Stockbox program recently doubled its capacity for enrollment, and is now able to serve nearly 10,000 qualified individuals!
A Stockbox is a free box of USDA grade A quality food from the federal government. It typically weighs about 35 pounds, and contains breakfast cereal, canned and powdered milk, vegetables, canned fruits and juices, pasta or rice, peanut butter, canned meats, and two pounds of fresh Wisconsin cheese.
Signing up for a Stockbox is easy. There is no application to fill out or need to bring along check stubs or rent receipts. To qualify, the applicant is simply required to present a photo ID, verification of address, and sign a form to “self declare” their eligibility. Once enrolled, the participant will receive a Stockbox monthly. If homebound, a doctor or social worker can write a letter so that a family member can serve as a “proxy,” allowing that family member to sign up on their behalf.
If an eligible individual is in need of a Stockbox immediately, they can go directly to Hunger Task Force, located at 201 S Hawley Ct. (just west of Miller Park) Monday –Friday 9:00AM-4:30PM. Otherwise, to find out which of the 35 pick-up sites is the most convenient and learn about upcoming pick-up dates, call “211” or click here.
Don’t let this opportunity to put extra nutritious food on the table pass you by!
All income eligible seniors are welcome. Seniors do not need to be foster or kinship caregivers to apply. The deadline to sign-up is July 30, 2010.
*This does NOT include income received from foster care payments, but does include Social Security, Kinship, and W-2 payments. The qualifying amount increases to $1,579 for two people, $1,984 for three people, and additional $406 for each additional person.
