Infant donations
When baby Morgan's mother died, Morgan's 19-year-old sister became her guardian. She does her best to take care of Morgan, working two jobs, but still could use some help. That help can come from you.
A few months ago, 22-year-old Nicole received a call from the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare informing her that her mother had abandoned her three younger siblings. Not wanting to see her siblings placed in foster care, Nicole welcomed them into her home, where she was already the primary caretaker for her own three children. The baby has a place to sleep tonight thanks to a donation of a Pack 'n Play.
Are you interested in helping foster or kinship families that are taking care of babies? Consider donating items to Kids Matter that will go to make sure these children have all the necessary items. Items can be new or gently used. Look over our list of items suggested by foster parents:
- Glass baby bottles or plastic bottles with the liners.
- Sleep and play outfits that have snaps. Health monitors may need to be attached to children with medical issues. Snaps allow for wires from monitors to pass through the clothing unlike outfits with zippers.
- Long sleeve t-shirts that tie on the side. These are also helpful for babies that have medical issues and must be connected to health monitors.
- Cotton receiving blankets.
- Organic cotton onesies. Organic cotton can reduce the chances for allergic reactions.
- Sleep sacks are like sleeping bags for babies. They allow the baby to stay warm without the danger of loose bedding that they could suffocate on.
- Head support for premature babies to help ensure proper development.
- Prop pillows and boppy pillows will help keep babies in upright position while feeding, and helps them build muscles.
- A tummy-time pillow. Infants need to spend time on their stomachs to develop normal head positioning.
- Bumbo chair are chairs designed to help babies who are learning to sit up.
- Assortment of diaper rash creams.
- Baby monitor so parents can listen to infants while in other rooms.
- Bouncy seat. There are some models that play music or vibrate.
- Premature baby clothes. Premature baby clothes can be tough to find and donations are always needed.
- Premature baby carseat. They are hard to find and foster parents rarely have advance notice of placement of a premature baby. View example.
