Fostering Hope

When children enter foster care, they experience a lot of different feelings. They may feel sad because they are separated from their family, relieved at being protected, afraid about what the future holds, guilty for the hurt their family feels, and many other emotions. Fostering Hope Packages are meant to ensure that their immediate needs are met and that they are given some comfort in a time of great stress.The lists below are some ideas to get your started on your Fostering Hope Packages.   You should include what you feel is best and are welcome to add your own ideas to the list.

For Older Children and Teens

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, brush, comb, shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, gel, and feminine products)
  • Sleepwear
  • Diary or journal
  • Gift certificates to a Walmart or Target
  • Stamps, stationary, envelopes and/ or address books
  • Pens, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies
  • Age appropriate books
  • Radio or MP3 player
  • Baseball hat, jewelry or accessories
  • Socks and underwear

For Younger Children

  • Formula and diapers
  • Cuddly stuffed animals
  • Sleepwear
  • Blankets
  • Games/toys/puzzles
  • Coloring books, crayons and drawing paper
  • Socks and underwear
  • Night light
  • Age appropriate books
