Meet Lynn
Lynn completed her CASA training two years ago this month, and she was ready to make a difference. Retirement had given her the time to pursue what she’d long wanted to do: stand up for kids who might otherwise go unheard.
Why She Became a CASA
“When an attorney friend mentioned volunteering as a CASA many years ago, I was intrigued,” Lynn recalled. “Life as a single mom, a busy career in government affairs and other excuses, though, got in the way. When I retired in 2023, becoming a CASA was my number one goal.”
Lynn says her motivation runs deep. “I was lucky as a child to have caring adults who made me feel valued and showed me kindness that has colored my entire life,” she shared. “Volunteering for KIDS MATTER is a chance to help pass that legacy to other families.”
Making a Difference
Her very first assignment involved a family of four sisters, ages two through sixteen, who had recently been reunified with their mother but still needed ongoing advocacy and support. From the start, Lynn approached her new role with warmth, determination, and compassion.
From the moment she began working with her assigned family, Lynn’s advocacy has been described as “exceptional” by her supervisor, Quin. “Lynn has demonstrated unwavering commitment and compassion in her efforts to support others,” Quin said. “Her advocacy on behalf of the family has been nothing short of remarkable, as she goes above and beyond to ensure their needs are met. Lynn’s selfless dedication and tireless efforts have made a significant positive impact on the well-being of the family.”
One example stands out: the oldest girl in the family was losing points in her math class every day because she didn’t have the required calculator for her assignments. When Lynn discovered this, she made it a priority to find a solution and eventually secured the calculator at no cost to the family. It was a simple but powerful act that removed a barrier to success and showed the student that someone was in her corner.
The Power of One
Lynn’s story is a reminder that one person can make a profound difference. Her empathy, creativity, and persistence have helped a family find stability and a young student find confidence in herself. “Every child deserves to know that their voice matters,” Lynn said. “Being a CASA gives you the chance to make sure they do.”
At Kids Matter CASA, we are endlessly inspired by volunteers like Lynn—people who step up, even during uncertain times, to stand beside children who need a voice. If you’re interested in becoming one of them, learn more about how you can get involved.
