Meet Lauren
Lauren has spent the past ten years as an elementary teacher, leading kindergarten, first, and second grade classrooms. Lauren is now starting a new chapter teaching fifth graders. She’s passionate about working with students facing emotional and behavioral challenges, as well as students who have backgrounds that include trauma. Lauren brings that same compassion and insight to her work as a CASA advocate.
Her Path to CASA
Lauren first learned about CASA through a friend’s Facebook post about his wife’s volunteer work. She’d long felt drawn to working with foster youth but couldn’t open her own home to fostering at the time – so when she saw this opportunity, she jumped took it!
Why It Matters
“It takes one adult to make a positive change in a child’s life trajectory,” Lauren says. As a classroom teacher, she sees intimate details of her students’ lives every day, but often feels limited in how much she can advocate for them. As a CASA volunteer, she has that ability — she can unapologetically and wholeheartedly advocate for her CASA youth.
Outside of CASA
At school, Lauren skips the “fun fact” question and asks kids for a “meh fact” instead – so here’s hers: she didn’t like mayo on sandwiches until just last year, at age 33. Better late than never, Lauren!
Lauren, your dedication and heart show up everywhere – in your classroom and in your volunteer advocacy. Thank you for being exactly the kind of adult every child deserves.
At Kids Matter CASA, we are endlessly inspired by volunteers like Lauren —people who step up, even during uncertain times, to stand beside children who need a voice. If you’re interested in becoming one of them, learn more about how you can get involved.
